My online poker adventures

Friday, March 23, 2007

I took two steps back after a barn-burning Friday night session. Saturday I was up mild but ended up breaking even. Not many huge disasters, but no big pots either. And then Sunday night I donked off 2+ buy-ins. I was trying to emulate a tight-aggressive style both pre and postflop, with little success, which was an understatement.

Saturday afternoon hands:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930281
I thought my bottom 2 pairs was good in this raised pot. When StinkySteven said "AJ no good?" I was even more relieved, but Wake_state38 showed up with the case Jacks anyways.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930283
Terrible terrible terrible. I should ask myself whether an overpair would play that flop that way.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930284
My KK ran into AA again. Yikes.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930287
Semibluffing with a straight-flush draw, and hitting the straight flush on turn for a smallish pot.

Sunday night hands:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?930289
I decided that it was too early to give up on my rockets, so I called, hoping to reevaluate turn, where I setted and proceeded to destack both opponents.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930290
The turn 7 reduced the number of outs for my hands against an overpair, but it also provided me with a bluffing opportunity, which I grabbed.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930291
Trying to semibluff my opponent off TPwK with a straight draw. Of course I was unsuccessful.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930292
I was quite lost in this hand. Fire2007 was a retarded straight-forward player, so she obviously had the 8. I feared that she boated with the turn Ace (which she did), and fortunately I was able to keep the pot small when all's set and done.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930293
I had no idea that opponent chased and hit his gutshot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930294
Overpairs were unkind to me on this night. Here some shortie setted against my QQ and doubled up through me.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930295
KK, Another lost overpair. It turned out that both opponent who called me down had me beat.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930296
Laying down KK. I don't know whether it's a good laydown, but my train of thought was: if I had shown tremendous strength (3-bet OOP preflop) and yet opponent came over the top (overbet all-in) he probably had me beat.

Friday afternoon I decided to play with my T8suited account, just to accumulate enough FPPs to cash out something. I first played 3 SNGs, lost the 1st one in the 1st hand, and played quite poorly in the other 2 but managed to suck out a 1st and a 3rd at the end.

And then I played some 6max while adopting a semi-loose passive strategy. It worked out rather neatly, and I avoided major losses and was up >2.5 buy-ins at the end of the session. I used my 1000+ FPPs to buy a book.

I continued to run hot at night. I was down early, but tore it up near the end for a net +200. I ended up with 7+ buy-ins ($180+) at one of the tables.

3 Friday afternoon hands -- all big wins. All hands were played with T8suited, and afterwards I converted T8suited in the history files back to BBQSquirrel:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930276
A set against 2 top pair hands. It held up for a net gain of >1 buy-in.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930277
A successful floating attempt -- minimum check-raise with a missed PP, and then turning my set. Hang on -- what if opponent had AA or KK? Then I guess I deserved to lose. But he had AK only, and I'm sure he felt quite sick after the hand.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930278
Limp-calling a raise preflop with AA. Things worked out splendidly, as the case Ace arrived to give me top set and opponent 2-pairs that he went broke with. Afterwards I consoled my opponent, suggesting to him that the same thing would have happened if we had each other's cards. That was probably not true -- he would have raised preflop and I would have folded.

Friday night hands. First some losses:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912783
I had no respect for FFL Force. Which was a bad thing, coz it turns out that he bet his good hands hard and straight-forwardly. I learned this only after I gift-wrapped him two buy-ins.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912783
Another lost buy-in, JJ vs KK.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912787
Another lost pot vs FFL Force. Even though he made the bad preflop call, I was the one who made the ultimate mistake, so I am not looking to call him an idiot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912788
This happened near the end of the session, and HeinWuppDich was the same person who sucked me out a few days ago with AT vs my T3 on a board of TT38A. Here I figured that T9s is worth a play in position against 2 full stacks, even in a reraised pot. I flopped the nuts, but by the betting I knew that at least one of them had to have a set, so when the board paired on the river I knew it was all over for me. It would've been a VERY nice pot if my hand held up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912789
This happened early during the session. Needless to say, don't try this at home.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912790
Playing KK in a passive-retard manner doesn't always work. Like here when the preflop raiser flopped a small set, and I couldn't get away.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912791
Another misplayed KK hand, early in the session. =(

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912792
Failed bluff. 'Nuff said.

Here comes the fun part:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912806
This was probably the turning point of the night. I raised with suited crap, turned 2nd pair and called down on a flushy board for a decent pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912793
Biggest ever pot for me online. I actually thought about folding the set, but since my table image was bad, and I was just calling the flop raises, opponent had every reason to think that I'm on some draw and not a made hand. I called the massive all-in, and my set of 4s held up for a 5+ buy-in pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912795
I have already recovered a lot of the losses incurred earlier at this table, and here I added to my stack when I flopped an overhouse with JJ while my opponent had trip 7s.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912796
Abusing a nit part I. Squirrel God was very tight and in-line, and when he had to think twice before calling my flop all-in I knew he didn't have KK. I am glad that he called, and that my 2 pairs with suited crap held up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912798
Abusing a nit part II. I reraised preflop with 97 unsuited, flopped trip 7s and destacked Squirrel God again.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912799
I received a perfect flop after raising with QJs preflop. Better yet, Katalkin decided it was a good time to get involved as he tried to semibluff me off the hand. I called down flop and a blank hit on the turn, providing Katalkin the opportunity to complete his suicide attempt.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912800
Interestingly, both I and my opponent were slowplaying good hands on that dry flop. I had the better hand though, and he couldn't fold his 2-pair hand to my serious turn 4-bet and river bet.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912803
Sizzlapoker is a regular at liquidpoker.net, and he is fairly tight and in line. I remember donking off a good chunk of money to him back in the full-ring days. Here I was able to exact some revenge when he failed to lay down TPGK against my 2 pairs and my betting.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?912805
Playing a big pair passively. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Here it does.

Thursday (Mar 15th) afternoon was a session to forget. I never really got into a groove, and at the end I donked off ~3 buy-ins.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930262
I was pwned by pacino06 this session. I wasn't about to give up on flop, and when the turn brought me a straight flush draw I decided to shove. Unfortunately opponent called and I didn't improve.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930263
Another huge loss to pacino06. I haven't gotten destacked by a set in a while. I guess I was due.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930264
My hand of course is no where as strong as it looks. However from the flop check-calls and turn checks I was sure somebody was drawing with a naked high diamond, so I stuck with my read, make a substantial turn bet on a friendly turn card, and called down after opponent check-raise shoved turn. Unfortunately he rivered a Q to wrestle the pot away from me.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930265
Aces got cracked. Cooler.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930266
Nothing went my way on this day. Here my KK ran into AA for a net loss of half a buy-in.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930268
Trying to get people to lay down TP is a waste of time. And more importantly a waste of money.

3 huge pots that I won:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930270
A rare positive on this night. I destacked mystisch0815 with outkicked trips in a reraised pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930271
Loose preflop call worked out here. I was surprised to learn that opponent didn't even have a pocket pair.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?930272
AKo was a good hand for me on this day. Another big pot won against KQ. Here I had top two while opponent went broke with bottom two.

Mar 14 evening. I played a long session (1100+ hands) after my Wednesday night seminar. I stumbled out of the gate and struggled through most of it, but at the end I was able to record a profit of $11 for a measly +1 PTBB/100 hand win rate.

I played another long session after I went home, trying to get more positive results after a mediocre session. I was able to win $74 over almost 1.8k hands for +8.25PTBB/100

Hands from the 1st session:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907013
I guess I shouldn't call the preflop reraise at 1st place, but chris14a was a pretty lousy player (see hand 907018) so I decided to stick around. I flopped a combo draw, but I was pitched against a set again. Since I had no fold equity I probably should save myself $5.4 by just calling turn.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907014
Just an unfortunate situation maybe? I flopped a straight draw and turned the flush draw as well, so I decided to push. But my opponent had TP + and the better heart draw, and I didn't improve anyways.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907015
Lightsbane and I had some history, so I decided to check-raise all-in with AK in this blind vs blind battle. He thought for a long while before calling. If I were him I would have snap-called.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907016
I was fucking underflushed again. Why does it happen so often even shorthanded?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907017
2 pairs vs flopped straight, and I didn't improve. I don't think I could play it another way given that my opponent is somewhat short.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907018
Finally some positive. AA vs TT, opponent was quite bad and he couldn't fold on a K-high board.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907019
Same opponent who overflushed me a few hands ago. Here the turn Jack gave me a straight and opponent a set, and he couldn't get away.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907020
I caught my set on the turn when opponent went apeshit. IMO it's twice as likely he has 44 or 22, rather than 88, so it was an easy shove for me.
Slowplaying a set -- he deserves it.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907021
Some fucking retard played KK passively -- I don't know what he's trying to achieve, especially with that 1 dollar donk bet on the flop (into a $10 pot). Regardless he couldn't avoid going broke against my AA.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907023
A huge semibluff -- I had a few of these tonight. I called Lightsbane's preflop reraise because I was in position. I flopped a nice draw, so I decided to call again. I didn't hit turn, but opponent showed weakness, and I pushed him off the pot by going all-in. Afterwards he said he missed with his AK, which was believable. He was still ahead of me though.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907025
Another bluff. I thought opponent had a stronger ace, but the river 3rd diamond provided me with a perfect bluffing opportunity. Look at his chat.

Hands from the latter session.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907026
Huge 3-way pot. My table image was loose at that time, but here I had a set, and two people called my huge turn bet with TPTK and a combo draw, respectively. My hand held up for a net gain of 2 buy-ins.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907028
I just suffered from a big beat (907034, see below) when I was next dealt QTs on an AKQ flop. I min-raised as a semibluff and was called by original raiser. But I turned trip Queens and proceeded to double up when opponent paid me off with TP (and same kicker).

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907029
QQ, flopped set 3-way. I went for the value check on the turn, but in retrospect I should have led out again, just to see whether TheBigCream would stick around and call a $7 or $8 bet. More importantly, had aaza check turn and river the flush I would have no one to blame but myself.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907030
Opponent must be putting me on air. How else could he justify calling all-in on turn with 6 outs?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907031
Set with 55 vs two pairs, all-in on turn. Limping with 85 offsuit preflop -- opponent deserves it.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907032
At this table, devinr22, IggyTT and I were all LAGGing it up. Here I flopped a combo draw and raised with it, but IggyTT 3-bet me. I decided that my hand was too good to fold so I called. When he checked turn I sensed weakness, and I pushed him off by going all-in with my bottom pair.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907033
On this night I was pwned by blackfruit, who loved to raise preflop. Twice I chose to clash with him (see below), and both times he had AA. Here however I pushed him off a pot with just a baby flush draw.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907034
I usually don't play AJ like this, especially OOP, but opponent appeared to be loose-aggressive, so I decided to clash with him. Unfortunately my timing was quite off.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907035
Yikes. I failed to believe in him again, and I paid rather dearly for it.

Friday, March 16, 2007

Mar 13 early evening was a bit of a grind, but I was able to translate my work (or play) into $45 over 643 hands for a win rate of 14+ PTBB per 100 hands.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907000
My AQ got smoked again, this time by 2 pairs, for a 120 BB pot. Obviously I should have 1) raised more preflop, and 2) fold river.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907001
Flopped an ass end straight from the BB, but my shortie opponent turned the boat, and I couldn't get away.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907002
AsAh got cracked again. This time my opponent chased the flush for the wrong price, hit it anyways, and then his hand held up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907003
I came up with the idea of playing my premium hands (AA/KK/QQ/AK) slow preflop against aggressive opponents. So far I had mixed results, this hand being a good one. Opponent pushed all-in with TT, even on a bad board.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907004
Another KK hand, this one I played fast, some donkey opponent pushed on a 873 flop. Since his image was bad, it was an easy call for me. He had middle pair, and my Kings held up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907006
Set against TPTK is even nicer than set vs. overpair, coz opponent would need runner-runner cards to suck me out. Here my opponent called my flop all-in, and my set of 5s held up for a very nice pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907007
The value check. Against out-of-line opponents and donkeys sometimes it works best to let them hand themselves by announcing weakness. Like here.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?907008
QQ hand. I don't know what overpair opponent has, but since he played weakly on the flop and turn I put him on JJ/TT rather than AA/KK. I was rewarded with a 160BB pot when I stuck with my read.

Thursday, March 15, 2007

Mar 12 early evening -- it was another profitable session that saw me won $100+ over 1185 hands, for a win rate of 16.95 PTBB / 100 hands.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?906990
A hand that won't make myself proud. When my hand is obvious yet my opponent isn't going away chances are he has me beat. I should have saved myself $11 by folding to his all-in.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?906991
KK, 10-high flop, and my pot-sized c-bet was called. I just had a bad feeling, so I decided to check turn and call a moderate river bet. Opponent flopped set and turned quads, so I did well to minimize my damage.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?906992
Set vs TPGK vs middle pair rivered trips for a large pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?906993
LOL at my opponent. He didn't raise preflop with AK, he didn't raise flop with TPTK + nut flush draw, he didn't raise turn with the same hand, and he called all-in after flushing on a paired board. Obviously he wasn't thinking about what I had. Same idea as my 63o hand (906990): if he had a nice hand (A-high flush) and yet I was going beserko, he should consider the possibility that I had a boat rather than just the Jack of clubs.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?906994
Twinfives was a reasonable opponent. Unfortunately for him, he pushed his AK preflop for a full buy-in against my AA, and my hand held up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?906995
Semi-bluffing twice with a straight draw, and milking another $10 after I completed my straight on the river. Opponent couldn't lay down his weak TP hand and paid for it.

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Monday Mar 12 early morning -- this was an insane session that saw me won $140+ over 490+ hands, for a win rate of 61 PTBB per 100 hands!

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897965
My BB special became no so special by the river. What a brutal bad beat.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897966
Dealing with a donkey, part I. Here I was undersetted for a full buy-in.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897967
Dealing with a donkey, part II. I didn't have too much respect for this opponent, and I wanted to recover my loss from the set vs set hand, therefore I decided to shove with my TPTK. Turns out I needed some help to suck him out for a huge pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897971
Dealing with a donkey, part III. Finally a legitimate win. Pokerchampn paid off my BB special trip 2s with TP no kicker.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897973
I don't know whether this is "bluffing with the best hand". Regardless, I'm pretty sure opponent didn't like the board with what I thought was a TP type hand, so I pounced on the bluffing opportunity and scooped up a decent pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897970
AA, preflop all-in against 2 donkeys, one of them had a real hand, but my rockets held up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897969
When I flopped a combo draw I would hope to push it against just an overpair, but here I ran into a set again. However I turned the straight flush to send my opponent home dejected.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897968
Set vs TPTK. My huge stack opponent doubled me up in this unraised pot, and I don't mind it a little bit.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Friday was dismal. My reads deserted me, I made questionable plays and I got outdrawn multiple times. In general I just outplayed myself for -$100.

Saturday was a much better day. I recovered some Friday loss in the morning and turned in a good +$100 session in the afternoon.

When it's all set and done I have $2333 in my account. It is so nice to be able to set all-time highs every 2 or 3 days.

Numerous hands. Friday disasters:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897997
I was putting opponent on Ax, which meant my 77 would have a fair chance of holding up. Of course I was wrong.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897996
AQ, TP all the way to the river, opponent shoved. There were way too many hands that beat me, such as 65, slow-played set, A4, backdoor diamonds, etc. So I painfully laid it down.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897995
So I raised preflop with suited crap and flopped trips. Should be a great situation. I decided to check turn and hope that opponent would take a stab against the missed high cards that I were represented. Instead he checked behind, rivered hit set, and laid a beating on me. Very sad.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897994
AQ had been a major loser for me lately. Here I flopped TP while BB flopped 2 pairs, and I proceeded to hang myself.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897993
A costly failed bluff. Sometimes I should realize situations (like this) where I have zero fold equity.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897992
I turned my straight but my opponent rivered his higher straight. I was destacked again.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897991
Another lost huge pot. I had no idea opponent was drawing. Perhaps I should ask why he is only calling turn with a made hand.

Saturday morning hands:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897989
Another AQ hand. The river completed all kinds of draws, I refused to believe in my opponent and paid dearly.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897990
I just suffered from a big beat, so I was on mild tilt when I flopped a baby flush, so I pushed. Unfortunately somebody checked ahead with the nut flush.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897988
Finally a positive hand. My AcAd won me a big pot as my opponent decided to get involved with a pair of 7s.

Saturday afternoon hands:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897983
AK, TPTK, didn't hold up as my loose passive opponent rivered 2 pairs.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897982
Trying to catch someone bluffing with a missed straight draw. Turns out to be wishful thinking.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897980
Opponent was very tight, but I still failed to lay down my KK against his betting so I was rather disappointed in myself.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897979
A successful combo draw against 2 pairs. I hit the best out for an inconspicuous straight.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?897978
Another KK against AA hand, but this time I make sure I flop my set before going all-in.

28k Hands Checkup

BB/100 looks splendid.
VPIP could be lowered.

Friday, March 09, 2007

I was running real goot the past 2 days.

A Wednesday evening session started atrociously, with my bacon saved by some suckouts. But I soon beared down and started playing solid poker. One thing that I managed to do is to keep my composure, e.g. after major suckouts or failed bluffs. I didn't let any of those mishaps snowball into bigger losses.

Conversely I had a couple of occasions where I made spewy plays and deservingly lost, and I made those plays only because I had been winning, I was about to leave, and I told myself I could afford to lose. One of my next goals is not to get too full of myself amidst success.

Thursday evening was a modest winning session. But again I left with a real sour taste in a missed high cards vs overpair scenario, and I had no one to blame but myself.

Thursday late night was hugely productive -- +$80 over only 1.5 hrs or so (494 hands) for a surreal +40 poker-tracker big bets /100 hands.

Wednesday evening hands. It all started with a couple of suckouts:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889667
Twinpsych is known to take huge stabs at orphan pots like this one, and I wanted to semi-bluff him off it. Turns out he had a real hand here, but I already priced myself in to call with the straight draw. In retrospect calling turn would be the best play since my draw was not too apparent.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889668
Villain was quite aggressive preflop, and I have once seen him reraise huge with hands like 99. But here he was not just reraising; he was 3-betting. I failed to fold my KK. However I flopped the set and had the nuts by the river.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889669
......failed bluff......

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889670
Spew. Under most circumstances I would play more cautiously (e.g. fold preflop) but I was up a bunch and I was about to leave. I gave away quite a bit with this outkicked TP hand. Hopefully I'll quickly learn that playing like this is a no-no.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889671
Trying to bluff somebody off his trips in a raised pot. LOL @ myself. =(

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889672
Sick call eh? I was putting opponent on a middle pocket pair. One thing I was right. He didn't have an Ace, and he didn't have a Queen. WTF is he doing in the hand?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889674
AcAd never deserts me. Not even with 4 hearts on the board after I called all-in preflop.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889675
According to Pokertracker I have lost lots of money to this opponent before. Here I exacted a fair amount of revenge, as he donkishly invited me all-in with Ace-rag after I flopped a set of 10s on a AT9 board.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889676
Lately I have been underflushed a lot. Finally a role reversal here.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889677
This is such a beautiful hand -- medium-scale PWNAGE should I say? This hand deserves to be posted in its entirety. I TOTALLY OUTPLAYED a knowledgable regular on all 3 streets:

1) I called his semibluff on the flop.
2) I led out full pot on the turn to deny drawing odds.
3) I check-called his bluff on the river after he missed.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (4 handed) pokerhand.org hand converter

Thursday night. I ran at 21/8 and avoided major losses throughout. The happiest part for me is to win big with hands such as 64s and T8s -- these hands had been my major losers according to Pokertracker.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889859
Biggest pot for me on this night. I thought for a long while on the flop before I decided to play passively, check my combo draw and go for implied odds. Things worked out perfectly. I led out big after I hit my flush on turn, I called the all-in, and opponent's set failed to boat up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889860
This is a hand that I didn't feel too good about, coz I was planning to call him down even if I didn't trip up my 9 on the river. Opponent was an aggressive megadonk, and I was not going to give him any credit for the Ace. He acquired a real hand on the turn, but the river destroyed it.

I unwisely lost half a buy-in to this passive in-line opponent a few days ago (TT vs 99, he had top set). Here I exacted some nice revenge when my combo draw improved to a flush on the turn, he stubbornly refused to lay down TPGK and paid for it.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889863
I raised preflop with JT diamonds, flopped a flush draw, took my free card and immediately hit it. Opponent improved to 2-pairs on the turn, and he fully paid off my hand.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?889865
Another good case of PWNAGE -- opponent wasn't the most in-line player around, and I looked like a genius by calling his missed flush draw with Ace-high (and no kicker to boot)! Here is the entire hand:

A long Tuesday night session was anything but smooth-sailing, but at the end I was able to grind out $45+.

Some hands:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883787
I got underflushed again, this time 2nd nuts vs nuts, for a full buy-in. !#$%^&*?":$#.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883788
An undisciplined call. By the river my set is losing to a Jack alone, or a club flush. Opponent has not been out of line, and so the situation probably called for a fold. But I wasn't thinking at all.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883789
Another makable fold, but a lack of displine again cost me big. Opponent has been around a long time and has been very in-line, so he probably had a real hand by setting on one of the board cards. Lately I have been calling big bets that I induced with river checks indiscriminately, and while I have my moments of success (see 3 of the hands below), I think I need to consider the style of my opponent, and what happened earlier in the hand, in order to decide which bets were callable.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883790
I was glad to pick up a powerhouse hand against my megadonk opponent. Flop cooperated, and the turn brought me top set. This megadonk would actually fold to aggression, so on the river I threw out a killer value-check, made an easy insta-call and doubled up.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883792
I was about to call it a night when I picked up AA and was reraised preflop. What a dream situation. I 3-bet pushed, was called, and his QQ didn't improve. I still called it a night afterwards.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883793
Truly a big blind special. I was allowed to flop trip 7s with 72 in the BB. I checked the dry flop. Turn brought straight and flush draws, so I led out $1 and was called. River was the diamond 2 -- completing the flush while giving me a full house, and somebody paid dearly with the Ace-high flush.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883794
This time it's my turn check that induced a huge bet from my opponent. The bet was unreasonably large, so there's a good chance it's a bluff. I rivered the flush, not sure I liked it, but I check-called again and prevailed.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?883795
I usually don't call reraises with AJ but here I had position. By the feeble flop bet size I decided opponent had KK/QQ/JJ and didn't like the flop, and I was ahead. I put in a very small raise to keep him in there. I let turn check through, and when river was a blank I stuck with my read and called down my opponent. Turns out he had less than what I gave him credit for. Doesn't matter. Thanks for the money.

Long update

I went on a losing streak in SNG so I reverted back to 6-max ring games. As usual, I had my glorious moments, think I am so good that I started bluffing somewhat recklessly, sent myself on tilt, lost a bunch, calm down, recover some loss, and so on. The same old cycle of death, maybe with a smaller amplitude than those I experienced before. So it isn't all bad.

February 21st hands:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?844607
Reraising an unknown with QQ, and facing resistance on an all-diamond undercard board. I had Qd and thought what the hey, I am not folding. I wasn't sure whether I like the 4th diamond, but at the end all was well.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?844608
Another QQ hand against another megadonk. He's known to pull crap moves like this, and the odd is 6 to 2 for him have a J or 4, rather than a 3, so it was an easy call. Nice try buddy.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?844611
I didn't feel particularly confident going all-in preflop with AK, but against an unknown shortie I figured that would be the best play. I got sucked out, fortunately only for a small amount.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?844614
A costly, failed bluff. As he called turn I knew he wasn't going to fold an Ace.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?844617
Another failed bluff. 'Nuff said.

February 28th hands:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863060
The best way to play hit draws OOP is to play straightforwardly i.e. bet them hard. Like here. Opponent improved to top 2-pairs with my straight card and couldn't lay down his hand.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863061
Set in a reraised pot. OzzyHH claimed that he laid down his flush draw, so it was a good bet on the turn by me. Even though the river was the gross-looking flush card I was too pot committed. After the hand I recalled that Hoelle99 was the preflop limp-reraiser so he most likely had a big pair and not a flush-drawing hand.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863064
I am really pleased with this hand, where I outplayed a non-donk opponent. Danpil was rather predictable, and I put him on a King. I didn't know he paired the 8 as well, but I am glad he did. I let him do all the betting until the river when I check-raised all in. He thought for a long hard while but couldn't get away.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863065
Wild play with KTs. Flopped flush draw, didn't hit, but the Ace on the turn combined with my opponent's smaller bet size led to me thinking opponent was scared. I raised, and combined with my preflop reraise, opponent had to think I had something like AK.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863066
With a hand like this I might as well lead out, coz if opponent doesn't have trip 9s he probably won't pay me off anyways. LOL @ opponent who played KK the way he did, although the end result would probably be the same even if he raised preflop. Obviously he didn't believe me and thought I was bluffing -- trying to represent trip 9s myself.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863067
This had been a bad table for me, but things were turning around. Here I raised preflop with 66, flopped a set and proceeded to destack a half-stacked player who had KQ and flopped top pair.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863068
I don't know whether this is good play or not. I told the world I was scared of the spade flush. Fortunately I induced a huge bluff from LP after I rivered a set that I didn't need and checked.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863071
I had a nice hand preflop, but by the turn I was playing the board. I fired 2 gutsy bluffs and they worked out perfectly. I guessed I represented the Q really well.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863077
Really bad play by me. Opponent was probably trying to represent the Queen, but I just called him down and lost a sizable pot to his Ace-rag.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?863079
Another moderate lost pot with JJ. I don't know what I can do here against somebody who limp-called preflop with QQ.

March 4th afternoon hands. This nice session saw me win about $75:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?876425
Lala001 just lost a huge pot moments ago to someone else, so here he must be still on tilt. I took advantage and found myself all-in for a full buy-in preflop with AA, and I prevailed.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?876426
A really bad break for an in-line opponent. The case Jack arrives on river -- that's the only card that would make him go broke, and he promptly did so by check-raising all-in.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?876427
Calling a preflop raise with 97s, chasing a flush draw, turning it and getting fully paid off by top set. Opponent was steaming afterwards. Was my chase a debatable decision?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?876430
My two pairs turned into a full house, and my opponent went broke after he chased and hit his straight on the river.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?876433
My flimsy pair of 8s was enough aganist this donk. Good stuff.

March 4th morning. It was a dismal start. I lost 3 pots with 2-card underflushes, one of them being the biggest lost pot of my life in terms of BBs (~$45+, 180 BBs). But I played hard to recover those losses, and I was successful. I started with 1860, bottomed out at ~1800 and wound up at 1877.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877030
To say that I was fucked here is a major understatement.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877031
QQ preflop all-in, only to run into KK. Too impetuous?

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877037
Missed combo draw sucks. I knew opponent had an Ace and I wanted to see whether I can bluff him off it. Unfortunately the answer was no.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877039
Sets are so adorable. Another small set vs overpair situation, and I was fully paid.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877040
Opponent was trying to represent the flush himself. Unfortunately I had the flush myself, and I called his bluffs and picked up a huge pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877042
I picked off yet another huge bluff here. So I flopped an ass-end straight from the BB. I led out and was called. The turn cooperated. I checked and induced a bet from opponent, who proceeded to call my sizable check-raise. River was an unsightly 10. My check induced yet another huge bet from my opponent. IMO it's much more likely opponent was chasing with a 10 than a J, so I made a gutsy call and deservingly scooped up the pot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877043
So I took a stab at the pot with middle pair top kicker after everyone checked to me. I got called, the turn brought me trip 10s, and I faced an all-in from my opponent. I called, and when all is set and done I had him outkicked. Opponent probably put me on a J instead.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877046
From his small flop bet I thought he was trying to trap me with QQ or 99, so I overbet shoved. I was glad he called, he had KJ instead and he didn't hit his gutshot.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877048
Opponent was trying to trap me with KK, and paid dearly for his decision, as I flopped top set with QQ.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877050
Preflop raise with KJ, bricked on the flop so I checked. Turn brought me a straight draw, and my opponent led out overbet. Was he trying to buy the pot? Anyways, I called him down and was fortunate to river the straight. Better yet, the 9 gave opponent 2 pairs, and he called my raise to fulfill my implied odds.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877052
QQ, overpair against TP on flop, all-in. Had he been a full-stacked player I might find the fold button. But then he probably won't make the same play with a full stack.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877054
AA, all-in on flop against middle pair, and then got sucked out. Bummer.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877056
Underflushed again. I wasn't about to make the same mistake (raise all-in) 3 times.
